When Two Become One

The latest buzz in technology news is all around Microsoft and Nokia joining hands and creating the vision that together as a team, they can become a stronger influence in the mobile market. I say joining together, but realistically I mean Microsoft purchasing Nokia’s core cell phone business.

Microsoft/Nokia Deal Expected To Conclude In April So far there have been a number of countries that have approved the Microsoft/Nokia deal, with Taiwan being the latest amongst them. However there is the question of when will the deal actually be concluded? Well the good news is that for those who are looking forward to a new era when Microsoft officially acquires Nokia, you will want to mark your calendars for April

So just what are their plans? I found this video of a Press Conference held in London which sheds a little more light on the subject.

Joining forces can sometimes be the best way forward and sometimes not. I’ve found a list of a few companies that have merged together. Sometimes a match made in heaven, other times…maybe not so much!

Top 10 Best (and Worst) Mergers of All Time
When it comes to mergers, some are so successful that we can’t remember a time when the companies were distinct: Where would Disney be without Pixar, or J.P. Morgan without Chase? But many mergers fall flat on their faces. The newly created company goes bankrupt, executives are fired, and in some cases, the merged companies disband in a sort of corporate divorce.

I have to agree that the Disney/Pixar collaboration are a match made in heaven, but as a fan of the old school animation I do miss those original Disney vibe hand drawn cartoons. I guess as with everything, and the reason I’m writing these blog posts, I need to get with the times!

It will be interesting to see how the Nokia/Microsoft partnership works out. Kudos to them for stepping up their game!
