All Aboard the Chromebook Express

The Chromebook is really starting to assert its presence in the technology market.  Not only is it very ‘budget-friendly’ and fast in operation, the king of kings in laptop technology – Lenovo has now climbed aboard the Chromebook Express with their own version.

Lenovo’s Bendy New Chromebook Lets You Both Type and Tap
After dabbling in the space with a couple kid-friendly laptops, Lenovo is finally introducing two Chromebooks for the rest of us. One of them even lets you turn the screen around 300 degrees and use it in touch mode.

With the added extra of “stand mode” will other manufacturers soon be following suit? Will we soon see ‘bendy’ Chromebooks as the norm? I’m not quite sure as to what difference it makes having the stand behind the screen, or in front of it in normal laptop mode.  Does it not do the same thing?  I can see the advantage of stand mode if it’s just a tablet, so that you don’t have to buy extra tablet accessories. Maybe I’m not quite getting the concept!

Okay, so that’s made things a little clearer. Being able to get a little more interactive with the touch screen experience. I can understand the thought behind the design better.

Lenovo’s N20p Chromebook Will Bend Over Backwards for You – Mashable
Lenovo’s N20p Chromebook shares some design features with the IdeaPad Yoga, and is able to fold its keyboard back 300 degrees to enable a ‘Stand’ mode.

As Chromebooks advance with additional extras, will they start to increase in their price?  Will they lose the low budget, affordability factor that they are so well known for?  I’m intrigued to see the development of these devices. I think they are a great idea for education, and I hope that they don’t alienate their perfect market by becoming more and more expensive.
